Bishop Paul S. Morton Explains Why He Denied Having a Secret Daughter for Decades

Bishop Paul S. Morton is widely respected, and this is not going to change.  Church congregations have a deep well of forgiveness, even for the worst of sins by their spiritual leaders.

Various sources on the web say that the Gospel recording artist has a few secrets that he hasn’t shared with the public.  Time tends to reveal everything, and the 62-year old is now being asked to pay the piper.

Morton has been accused of having a 39-year old daughter that he has not claimed for most of her life.   Some are saying that the Bishop didn’t tell anyone about his daughter because he was afraid of what other people would think about his role as a pastor.  So, rather than confessing to his indiscretion, he kept it hidden and even denied it, likely to his daughter’s emotional pain and shame.

The pastor spoke recently about his personal life and the choices he made in his past.

“While in my early 20’s, prior to pastoring and being married, I did have a very short-lived relationship with a Ms. Elaine Hawkins. A few months after the relationship, she informed me she was expecting a child,” Bishop Morton said.

The pastor says that he provided financial support for his daughter, and that his wife and kids all knew about her as well.

“I wish I could tell you that I did right all my life, but I can’t. I have made some major mistakes and this is one of them,” Bishop Morton said about having unwed sex as a young preacher.”

But the pastor’s daughter, Ane’tra, doesn’t seem to be as forgiving of her father.  She shared documents with Obnoxious TV showing that her father requested a DNA test when she was 18 after he was asked to provide more money.   When her mother didn’t provide the DNA test, the pastor allegedly cut them both off.

Bishop Morton’s representatives feel that his daughter is now going public for financial reasons.

“I know what the devil is trying to do, he wants to take my influence,” he explained. “I know that I have been living a Godly life for God.”

No one knows why Ane’tra’s mother never wanted her daughter to get a DNA test.  So, maybe the pastor has a point.  It appears that his daughter could be after money and may not be his daughter at all.  What do you think?  Does this hurt his credibility as a pastor or is he the likely victim?

10 things you don't know about Kirk Franklin

In case you’ve been buried under a rock, you should know that Kirk Franklin is a megastar in the world of gospel music.  His albums have sold millions of copies around the world, and he is a major force for Christians seeking a good rhythm to underlie their spiritual challenges.

Here are a few other things you may or may not know about Franklin:

1)      He is from Forth Worth, Texas, raised by his Great Aunt Gertrude after being abandoned by his mother as a baby

4)      Franklin became choir director at the Mr. Rose Adventist Church at the age of 11

7)      In 2000, The Family filed a multimillion dollar lawsuit against Franklin and GospoCentric Records.   This was the end of the group and Kirk became a solo artist

8)      In 1996, Franklin Married Tammy Collins, a long-time friend.  They both had one child from a previous relationship.  They have two children: Kennedy, born in 1997, and Caziah, born in 2000.

“Prince Of Praise” Byron Cage Releases New Single ‘Troubles Away’

Byron Cage is known as an innovator in the genre known as praise and worship.  Taking the excitement of the live church experience and melding it with contemporary and stirring melodies, Cage has presented songs heard in choir stands week after week. With the release of his ninth CD, ‘Memoirs Of A Worshipper,’ fans have been lifting their hands to the spirited, Top 10 Billboard hit, ‘Great & Mighty’. Now Gospel music lovers can “get their praise on” with the brand new single, ‘Troubles Away’. The retro cut has believers “dancing their troubles away.”
The upbeat, throwback track is a feel-good, perfect-for-summer jam. Cage says about the new single, “As Christians, we don’t have to worry. 1 Peter 5:7 says that we can cast our cares upon the Lord because He cares for us.  So we can wave them off; we can wave our troubles away.” He will be performing the song on the upcoming season of Bobby Jones Gospel, which is taping at BET Studios in Washington, DC on Saturday 27th July.  Also, he will be co-hosting a show with the legendary Dr. Bobby Jones.

In addition to his role as a radio personality on Radio One’s Praise 104.1FM in DC and host of Joy In The Afternoon on Sundays, Cage holds two minister of music positions – at Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, MD and at St. Paul’s Baptist Church in Richmond, VA. Although primarily known as a worship leader, Cage is also a minister of the Gospel and has been stepping up to the pulpit frequently lately. Licensed in 1992 and ordained in 1997, he’s been preaching at a number of events including the recent I Hear Music In The Air Conference last May, leaving many in attendance in awe. He’s slated to preach at the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. National Convention on Saturday 10th Augustvin Houston, TX and again at the Midwest Black Family Reunion during their 25th Anniversary Celebration from August 15-19, 2013 in Cincinnati, OH.

Born in Grand Rapids, MI, Byron Cage was raised by two preaching parents. His mother is a preaching evangelist and as a youth, he would travel with her and play for her. With both parents in ministry, some may believe it was hard for the bug not to bite him as well. But Cage insists that it was more than genetics that had him step up to the sacred desk for the first time. He says, “I definitely think that my parents being preachers had a strong influence on me, but I knew that God called me to preach as well.”

After moving to Atlanta to attend Morehouse College, he finally accepted the call to ministry.  Like many, he ran from the call initially, understanding the seriousness of the commitment. “There’s another level of discipline that comes with accepting that call,” he shares. “It’s not to be taken lightly.”

Mandisa | Living Proof Of The Title Her New Album ‘Overcomer’

GRAMMY nominated artist Mandisa is calling out all ‘Overcomers’ in her latest project, which drops on 27th August. The long-awaited fourth studio album, ‘Overcomer,’ comes over two years since the release of her critically revered and best selling GRAMMY nominated record, ‘What If We Were Real,’ which brought on fan favorites and No. 1 songs such as ‘Stronger’ and ‘Good Morning’. ‘Overcomer’ is the lead single from the album and is an extension of the impactful message once began with her song ‘Stronger,’ an anthem that there is hope in the midst of life’s battles. The title track peaked this week at No. 1 on the iTunes Christian Singles Chart and is already in the top 20 at AC Monitored after only three weeks on the charts.

Mandisa says, “I recorded both the song and the album to fuel faith, empower people, and remind those facing a battle, that all of the strength, power, and weapons of warfare they need is readily available to them. We are all overcomers.”

Produced by Christopher Stevens and David Garcia, ‘Overcomer’ continues to showcase the former American Idol finalist’s powerful vocals and Pop-leaning hooks that blend effortlessly through all 11 tracks. With caution-to-the-wind melodies weaved throughout the record, anchored by emotional songs like her open letter to her brother in ‘Dear John,’ ‘Overcomer’ is set to be Mandisa’s most impactful release to date. Many songs were co-written by critically acclaimed artists and friends including Chris August (‘Praying For You’), Israel Houghton (‘At All Times’), Tiffany Lee, aka Plumb (‘Dear John’), Britt Nicole and Cindy Morgan (‘Where You Begin’) and Matthew West (‘The Distance’).  This fall, Mandisa will once again embark on six-time GRAMMY winner TobyMac’s acclaimed “Hits Deep Tour.” Joining Mandisa on the tour, which kicks off 7th November are Brandon Heath, Jamie Grace, Colton Dixon, Chris August and Capital Kings.

Sex: When the Cost is Hidden

She’d been asked to speak to the students, but she could clearly see their disinterest.

Clicking the remote, the screen in front flashed her first slide about STDs.

She wasn’t all that much older than the students seated before her. Ten years ago she was sitting in a classroom like they were.

She knew what they were feeling and probably doing when their parents weren’t around.

She explained that some STDs were silent—causing damage without noticeable symptoms. When she showed them the pyramid of STDs, their teen bravado manifested—naturally, teens think bad stuff only happens to others. Frustrated with their cavalier attitudes, she flipped off the projector and leaned against the desk. She decided to tell them a story.

There was a girl who went to church with her family on Sundays, and then did whatever else she wanted the rest of the week. She liked her freedom and as long as she got home by curfew, her folks never knew what she was really doing.
At first it was exciting to meet older guys at the theater and then ride around until midnight. Soon they were going to darkened apartments and pairing off. She didn’t intend to have sex, and she kept telling herself she would be more careful next time.

But there were lots of next times. Sex became as routine as church. When her high school years were finally over, she decided that the wild part of her life needed to end too. She went to college and decided not have sex until she found someone who’d stay with her for life. A couple years later, an amazing man made that promise, proposed the old-fashioned way by asking her dad first, and they soon married.

They built a sweet life and anticipated the children they’d have. They waited. And waited. Then she discovered an awful truth—an undiagnosed Chlamydia infection as a teen had severely scarred her fallopian tubes. She was sterile. She couldn’t have a child. She didn’t think that her carefree teenage life would rob her of the family she’d always dreamed about. She cried at the unfairness, but she knew she’d made that choice long ago and would now live with it.

The classroom was silent and waited for her to continue. They watched her as she gathered her presentation materials. Looking at the clock, she nodded to the teacher sitting in the back of the room. As she reached the door, she stopped and turned to the class one last time.

Whatever you think about sex, it does come with a price. I know. Because the girl in the story—the girl who finally found true love, and then discovered she’d never have a child…that girl is me.

For anyone having sex outside of a healthy, monogamous marriage, the odds aren’t in your favor. The Centers for Disease Control says there are nearly 20 million new cases of sexually transmitted infections annually. By age 25, one in two sexually active persons will have an STD/STI. Each year one in four teens contracts an STD/STI. Do you really know the price tag of sex? Don’t find out the hard way. Save sex for marriage.

I know a lot of people will wonder where the heck the name FICTION came from, the skit is actually a story line, that's one of the reason's its called that. But you will agree with me that most fictional stories end up to be true after all. The song entails the miracle hand of God in the lives of sick people, the fact that the impossible can be made possible and health be restored, the tittle dosn't make God unreal, and guess what the story line is about zino-p, she had some health challenges that triggerd the writting. So its non-fictional after all.

Is Lecrae going to sign with Jay-Z?

When you talk about Christian Hip Hop/Rap it’s hard not to think about Lecrae… The first rapper to win a Gospel GRAMMY, which is normally won by heavyweight “Contemporary Gospel” artist, not a rapper.

Lecrae has had great success during his career, however the mainstream music world really started taking note after he appeared on the 2011 BET Awards Cypher and also his collaboration with Statik Selektah for the song ‘Live And Let Live’ taken from the ‘Population Control’ album.

A few weeks ago rumours started surfacing that Lecrae was to sign with Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, which some would claim to be a massive career move in terms of reaching a wider audience and making a bigger impact on the mainstream Hip Hop music world.

Lecrae responded to the rumours and claims in an Ebony.com interview saying, “[Laughs] At this point in time, no,” Lecrae told Ebony. “Essentially, he was looking for some conscious artists and my name was thrown into a pool of other artists and that’s as far as it went.”

With that said, Lecrae did make it clear that signing with Jay-Z was not something he would consider despite the obvious advantages of a move like that.

“Nah. For multiple reasons, but one majorly, I’m an independent artist, I’m a label owner,” Lecrae explained. “I love my independence. I love being able to create the story.”

Lecrae continued, “…I want to do in many ways what Jay-Z is doing for the mainstream. He’s inspiring a lot of people to think they can do something on their own. I want to inspire people that they can do it on their own and not compromise their faith and beliefs, as well. So, that’s what I stand for.”

Lecrae’s released ‘Church Clothes’ the Mix-Tape in 2012 which received in excess of 100,000 downloads on popular Mix-Tape website Datpiff.

Dubbed as one of “the most important albums in Christian Hip Hop history,” ‘Gravity,’ Lecrae’s latest album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and No. 1 on the Top Rap, Christian, Gospel, and Independent Albums chart, and won the GRAMMY for “Best Gospel Album” 2013.

Stevie Wonder To Release Gospel Album ‘Gospel Inspired By Lula’

One of the world’s most loved voices, songwriters, producers and musicians, Stevie Wonder has announced that he will release a Gospel album in tribute of his late mother Lula Mae Hardaway. The album currently titled ‘Gospel Inspired By Lula’ but is interestingly expected to have an Arabic twist.

In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Wonder stated that he hopes the album will spread the message of truth to a wide audience.

“We’re going to do some traditional gospel stuff, but I’m thinking about doing a gospel song in Arabic. I’m going to twist it all up in different ways, because I think everyone needs to hear the word of the Gospel,” said Wonder.

The idea for a Gospel album isn’t a new one but was conceived long before the passing of Wonder’s mother. He shares, “I promised her I would do it. She always wanted me to do it before she passed away, the untimely passing away,” said Wonder. “We’ve been working on some songs and some ideas. So we’re going to complete that as well.”

While a release date hasn’t been announced, fans can expect ‘Gospel Inspired By Lula’ in the near future or in Wonder’s words “relatively soon,’

“I never put a time on things, because the most important thing is that it’s good. Hopefully we get it the way it feels good to me, and in the case of the one I’m working on with David, both he and myself feel good about it,” said Wonder.

“The word of the Gospel really is love and it really is about people following the word…,” said Wonder.

Zacardi Cortez Releases New Single titled ’One On One'

In 2012, Zacardi Cortez made a big splash with his best-selling debut CD ‘Zacardi Cortez: The Introduction’ (Worldwide Music Inc.). The album peaked at #2 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart and earned him a Stellar Award nomination. After a brief recording hiatus, Cortez is back in the studio and has recorded a Soulful new song that is taking the Gospel and urban AC radio airwaves by storm. The simple but dynamic piano ballad ‘1 On 1’ was sent to radio programmers last week. It’s already one of the most added songs at gospel radio, gaining steam on urban stations and just landed in the Top 40 after one week in circulation.

“Zacardi is the best singer in America today,” says Worldwide Music, Inc. CEO Kerry Douglas. “I’ve been grooming him like I groomed James Fortune and Earnest Pugh,” he says. “Zacardi is my next superstar and I have no doubt that he will be one of the biggest artists the Gospel world has ever seen.” The song anchors the latest installment of Douglas’ best-selling Gospel Mix CD series. The new thirty-track set, ‘Kerry Douglas Presents Gospel Mix VI,’ releases on 20th August 2013 and boasts great tracks by Tamela Mann, Ruben Studdard, Ted Winn, James Fortune & FIYA, Bryan Wilson, Earnest Pugh, Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, Evelyn Turrentine-Agee and a host of up and coming artists.

“The song is about spending one on one time with God,” says the Houston native. “We all go through those times when we just have to put everything else aside – turn off the TV, put the video game down, stop taking phone calls – and just concentrate on our relationship. It can be your relationship with your girlfriend, your child or God. We all need that one on one time with the ones we love to let them know that we do love them and that’s the real message of the song.”

The 27-year old rising star has been singing all of his life and began his career singing with his family, The Cortez Singers, and recording with his musical godfather, John P. Kee. He first gained notice as the lead on James Fortune & FIYA’s 2008 breakthrough hit ‘The Blood’ and their subsequent #1 smash, ‘I Believe’. He’s as well known for his intricate vocal gymnastics and fiery hoops as for his smooth tone. He can sing it all, from gutbucket blues to polished pieces. His rousing track ‘One More Time’ (featuring John P. Kee) spent six months on the Billboard Top Ten Hot Gospel Songs chart but ‘1 On 1’ is poised to go all the way to the top.
